Autumn Equinox

Today is the autumnal equinox in the Northern Hemisphere when the plane of Earth's equator passes through the center of the Sun. Day and night are of approximately equal duration all over the planet, but for the Northern Hemisphere it marks the date when the days will become shorter than the nights.
