Winter Solstice

Today is winter solstice, the shortest day and the longest night of the year when the earth's axis is tilted farthest from the sun in the Northern Hemisphere. Each day after will be longer until the Spring Solstice.  In many cultures around the world it marks a time of hope and anticipation for the coming light and growing season.
